Keep It Simple
Building good habits in children (and adults!) is easier when the rules are simple to remember. The 2-2-2 Rule is the gold standard recommended by dental associations worldwide.
1. Brush 2 Times a Day
Once in the morning (after breakfast) and once at night (before bed). Brushing at night is arguably the most critical because saliva production decreases during sleep, leaving teeth more vulnerable to acid attacks from leftover food particles.
2. Brush for 2 Minutes
Most people only brush for 45 seconds! Setting a timer for 2 full minutes ensures you have enough time to clean every surface of every tooth. This is especially important for children who are still developing their manual dexterity.
3. Visit the Dentist 2 Times a Year
Regular checkups every 6 months allow your dentist to catch issues early (like small cavities or gum inflammation) before they become painful or expensive problems. It also includes a professional cleaning that removes tartar buildup you can't brush away at home.
Building a Routine
Sticking to the 2-2-2 rule is the best investment you can make in your child's smile. Need help with technique or due for that 6-month visit?
